One Network To Rule Them All

Will Google+ take over every form of social networking, in my option yes, read on and let me know if you agree.
As I was sitting in class today, I realized that Google+ is a STRONG tool in so many aspects. You have the power to harness almost everything all in one easy secure plat form. So let’s look in to what it will replace in my mind.

Facebook: There is no doubt that when you first log on to Google+ you see a resemblance to Facebook, and well if something’s not broke don’t fix it, simple as that. Facebook did go for a reason, but Google+ took it one notch higher with being able to search inside of the site its self and being able to sort your stream (Facebook: News Feed). When you go to write a update you can attach all the same things as Facebook but with the ability of one more, Geolocation. That’s a huge benefit, let’s say you wanted to meet a certain group of people for coffee (we will get to this next) you can attach your location so everyone knows where you are and thanks to technology you could put this up on your computer or on the Google+ app on your phone.

Twitter: Secure, Ever have that problem on Facebook where you want to add some one and they don’t want to add you back but you want to know what their up to. Twitter solved that problem by following that person. It was a step in the right direction, Google+ topped it off with Circles, now the people you follow are in circles, so when you post up a status update you can control what people see it, so there’s privacy, let’s say I wanted to post a update, I could make sure my friends only saw it and not let’s say my family or other people. You can also have one person in as many circles as you want. This is where the Geolocation comes back into play, you could post a update just to your circle of friends. But 2 seconds later you could put another update to everyone (Including public) without having to switch networks.

LinkedIn (possibly): This is not yet but It’s still in beta, I could see Google+ becoming like LinkedIn, for Business networking, It’s got the employment experience, but it needs the details, that could be added and then made even more private the places that you worked. (So like I worked at The Premium Review (set to extended circles) and the details (set to circles). The next step that Google would need to add is company support, so companies and come on and be part of Google+ and we can follow them. OR Google+ could integrate with LinkedIn or buy them, whatever works.

Blogging: First let’s define the average person’s blogging, anything that expresses a (somewhat) complete idea and allows people to comment on that idea and allows people to have rich discussions among each other on the internet. Okay so how will Google+ replace it, easy it’s what it does you can filter who you want to post it to. The average user can replace their Tumblr or BlogSpot with this.

Skype: Welcome to the Hangout, Google has implemented their own video chatting with Google+ called hangout where you can have up to 10 people in a conversation at once. Great for projects and meetings, the best part is there is no need to have a network for talking and then one for video, and you never need to install a desktop application, only the Gtalk add-on.

BBM or iMessage: Lets Huddle, Huddle is a cross platform application (when the iOS version gets approved) it allows users on Google+ to communicate between phones/tablets in real time. You can instantly start chatting to a group. This is still in beta and is a little buggy. But because it will be cross platform and not suck on one OS it’s a winner.

Flickr: Google has started going after the photo networking a little harder, seeing as they did not have one, now they are pushing two of them really hard Picasa( soon to be named Google Photos) and Photovine(we will talk about this later). Google allows you to take any photos and put them up on the web without a data cap like some companies. Photovine allows you to put a photo up on the web and people comment on a picture with another picture, and so on and so on and just see where it leads, this has never been done before and sounds amazing! In the mobile application (Android only), has implemented what’s called Instant upload, you take a picture from the application or the widget and it’s automatically (On 3G or Wi-Fi you can decide) pushed to you Picasa album under private, and from there you can move/ edit and un-privatize them. All with the same unlimited storage.

Foursquare: The Mobile Google+ app has NFC support built right in (if your phone supports it), that allows you to check in from anywhere just like Foursquare has been doing. If companies join Google+ (Like I stated they should in LinkedIn section) you could offer your own rewards that could apply to the Google Wallet credit card or customer loyalty cards.

If you have gotten this far thanks for reading this I apologize for the spelling. I hope you agree with what I said, and because this is a blog post comment let me know what you think.
